Love is in the Air ~ DIY Valentine Card

There’s just under 3 weeks left before Valentine’s Day and I am all set with my cards!  I decided to play a little with my Cricut and the Sweethearts cartridge.  I picked a few Valentine-colored cardstock papers at the craft store and started my quest to create a handmade Valentine!

First, I split the “Avalanche” White cardstock in half.  The dimensions of each card are 5.5″ x 8.5″.

Then I went to my Scor-Pal to score each card at 4.25″ (half of 8.5″).

See?  Super easy and a perfect fold (I highly recommend this tool – I’ve had it since my wedding in 2010 when my mom, her friend, and I made the ceremony programs!).

After prepping the card base, it was time to make it pretty.  I started by trimming a 3.5″ tall envelope graphic from the Sweethearts cartridge.  I trimmed this graphic out of the different colors of cardstock (light pink, purple and dark pink).

I wasn’t planning on doing anything to the back of the card until I saw that the little heart shape cutout would be perfect to use!  Stay tuned…

I picked up a pretty textured cardstock and cut it into 5.5″ long by 5″ wide pieces.  I scored the long (5.5″) side at 4″ so it aligned as shown below with the white card.

I secured the two pieces together with some glue.  However, the first card was glued with the “broad” tip which is why you see little glue bubbles below.  I switched to the Pen Tip and it worked much better for subsequent cards!

How adorable does the little heart look on the back??  Glue it as shown for a cute little detail.

Then glue your envelope, using the Pen Tip on the perimeter and on the flap.  Center on the textured paper area as shown.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with the red/white twine I had from previous holiday projects, but decided to double wrap the top of the card as shown below.  I think it’s a cute, subtle detail!

Last, I needed a little flair to the front of the card.  The Sweethearts cartridge has a heart-X-O graphic that I cut a 1″ tall piece out of the scraps from the textured paper.

Voila!  Super easy and adorable Valentine Cards for your Valentine!

Don’t forget to sign the back!  I’m going to have to order a cute stamp for this, since I KNOW I will be making more cards – this was so fun!!
