One More Month

Today I paid our last rent check for quite possibly the rest of our lives.  Nobody’s dying here, and nobody bought a house (yet).  Husband and I have reached the point of yet another lease expiration, but this time we’re not renewing or moving to a new apartment.  We’re moving in with my parents.

Yep…my parents.

We’re not moving in with them because we can’t afford our own place.  Nor are we moving in with them because they need us to help (they’re quite young and chipper if I do say so myself).  We’re moving in with them because Husband’s new job is leaving us in limbo.  We made the collective decision to pack up all our s!*&, put it all in storage, and wait out the storm in the comforts of my childhood home with my wonderful parents living rent free so we can save money for a second car and a down payment for a house when limbo ends.  That was a mouthful, but that’s exactly what this move is all about.

We are beyond lucky to have this opportunity.  I can’t even begin to describe how happy I actually am about it.  We have always struggled to pay into our savings account.  We’ve carried interest-bearing credit card debt two separate months in our lives so it’s not that we’re inappropriate spenders, we’ve just always lived paycheck to paycheck.  I am positively thrilled to be able to save money on a consistent basis.

I’m also really looking forward to spending more time with my parents, even though they are super independent!  My mom will be gone traveling the world for nearly the entire month of June and my dad works in his office about 10 minutes from the house often (aka “The Bunker”).  It’ll be nice to spend summer with them on the porch with a glass of wine (most likely helping my mom sample for her wine website at www.grape-experiences.com) and let Kate run amok in the backyard (hopefully without making friends with any of the suburban coyotes).  Once we’re out of limbo, we will likely live a plane-ride away, so this time with my parents is invaluable.

I can’t wait to share the adventures of living with roommates!  My dad has already vetoed my offer to pay rent via the complete remodel of their 2nd floor, but there’s still time for convincing.  I will definitely be re-painting and decorating my own bedroom as it still displays prom corsages from 2003.  Good times ahead!

Husband has also been going to his own parents in Michigan once a month for a week.  We have discussed going out there together each month since I work from home and can do so from anywhere really!  MIL & FIL, this is your official notice that I’ll probably be joining the trips come June, assuming we’re still in limbo by then (all signs point to yes, at this point)!

P.S. This is NOT an April Fools joke – I promise.  Although, I do want to know any good pranks y’all think we should play on the parentals!

productivity for working moms

welcome!

I'm Jessica!

I used to glorify "busy." If I wasn't busy, I wasn't doing enough. But when I became a mama, my entire outlook shifted.

The only way out involved a complete overhaul of my time, money & communication systems.

Today, I'm doing LESS and achieving more.

It's a productivity dream!

I'm still learning (and always will be!), but my purpose here is to help YOU achieve this level of space in your life too.
