Weekend Recap ~ June 29-30, 2013

We stayed in Chicago this weekend after being gone the last three in Wisconsin. It was unexpectedly refreshing to sleep in my own bed all weekend!

Saturday night was the highlight of the weekend with a trolley ride around downtown Chicago fit with booze, Backstreet Boys, and our friend Brandon’s birthday! See what I did there? Brandon had such a great time it appears he wasn’t even aware of a group photo being taken at one of the bars. It was a little crazy trying to get the group shot, but I totally thought he made it in…ha!

A great time was had by all. I lugged my Canon around with me all night but ended up with blurry cell phone pics instead. Oh well – I suppose they fit the evening’s festivities well – sorry they’re so dark and blurry!

Besides the trolley, here are a few other weekend happenings:

» Kate slept over on Saturday night at Camp Ruff It – a cage free boarding facility in Carol Stream, IL. She used to go to Earth Pups when we lived downtown and we had planned to suck the long commute up until we found a place closer to home. So far it seems like she likes it. She’s spending 5 nights there when we’re in Colorado soon so she better love it!

» My mama came home from Spain – the final leg of her “world tour” that extended the whole month of June. We’re really happy to have her back and thankfully we passed the cleanliness test. She thought the cleaning lady had just come this past week. BOOM – she came two weeks ago. If you didn’t read about our living situation, check out my April update.

» We reached our savings goal for a second car down payment. We have zero plans to purchase a second car yet, but when we do, we have our down payment ready! We’re also 50% saved up on our emergency savings goal (approximately 6 month’s savings) so our focus is shifting to the remaining 50%. When we reach the emergency savings, every penny goes towards a home down payment. We’re at least another 18 months away from buying a home (if I have to guess right now) so we’re in good shape to save a pretty decent amount by then. I didn’t think it would be that long, but situations changed and we’ll probably be renting before we buy at this rate. I think it’s for the best though! I’d rather have a little extra time to save up for a better house.

I’m gearing up now for an evening of preparing for the short work week. The last thing I want to think about on Thursday & Friday is my day job. I’ll be celebrating Independence Day with some boat time and the next day with some Tim McGraw at Summerfest in Milwaukee! Yee haw!

productivity for working moms

welcome!

I'm Jessica!

I used to glorify "busy." If I wasn't busy, I wasn't doing enough. But when I became a mama, my entire outlook shifted.

The only way out involved a complete overhaul of my time, money & communication systems.

Today, I'm doing LESS and achieving more.

It's a productivity dream!

I'm still learning (and always will be!), but my purpose here is to help YOU achieve this level of space in your life too.
