One of the best things about adopting a puppy the moment they’re born is being able to track their growth week-to-week. It’s amazing how much growing they do before they’re ready to be picked up at 8 weeks. You’ll see!
Trudy is now 1 week old. The absolute most exciting bit of information from this last week is that we DID get to pick Trudy afterall. As it turns out, Paula & Jeff decided to instead keep a dapple from a future litter. There’s nothing wrong with this litter but their breeding program calls for a dapple…and dang are they adorable too!
Now, on to Trudy, formerly known as “Godiva.” Not much has changed in the first week besides gaining a few ounces (she’s now 9.9 ounces, up from 7.1 at birth). Dachshunds are so tiny. I wish we could hold her this tiny, but when she comes home she won’t be much more than 2 pounds, if that, which is pretty stinkin’ tiny as it is!
Here are some photos taken by Paula of Trudy at one week old! See those little light spots on her paws and face? They will eventually lighten up to a color similar to Kate. Chocolate and cream miniature dachshunds all look very different from each other depending on their markings!
Trudy hasn’t opened her eyes yet, but they typically do between weeks 2 and 3. I remember Kate’s photos taken just short of 3 weeks had her little eyes open. They just get cuter and cuter each week!
Speaking of Kate, how about a picture of her at around 1 week old? Someone looks like a chunky little monkey…!
