It’s the Little Things {#1}

About a week ago, I realized I hadn’t shared much about the pups on the blog lately. I’m an over-sharer on Instagram, but not much has made it over here!

That was when, while over-sharing on Instagram (obviously), I discovered a brand new link-up by Jess (Sadie Sky Boutique) and Ashley (Words About Waverly).

Branded “It’s the Little Things,” this link-up is all about soaking up the everyday goodness in life. Slowing down and appreciating “the little things” is exactly the purpose of 2014 for me, hence my word this year to “simplify.” Nobody has to twist my arm to slow down and soak up the adorableness of Kate & Trudy, among other things!

Besides (over)sharing pictures of Kate & Trudy, I decided to expand a bit into other areas this week (and hopefully each week)…

Mama

As a puppy mama who works from home, I get to love on my babies whenever I want. I consider myself incredibly lucky, but still have a job to do! Most of the true snuggle times happen first thing in the morning or after dinner, and definitely on the weekends. Here are a few favorites of Kate & Trudy from this past week.

Kate’s butt hurt on account of not getting more food after 30 minutes of whining.

I can’t resist a dachshund in the fetal position. Love this girl!

Trudy’s gorgeous eyes…so different from Kate’s, yet just as perfect.

My heart skips a beat every time these two find themselves snuggling! I love this one in particular as it looks like Trudy has no body. LOL!

Trudy’s favorite spot in the bath – it’s the first place she goes!

Kate prefers the shower water. Ha!

Wife

Last year was a test in our patience as a couple. Husband graduated with a Masters in June 2012 and got hired into his dream job in June 2013 (process started in Aug 2011). The job requires training and soon after he was hired we found out that there would be no classes until potentially the start of 2015 (crap). We discussed our options and he began the process of re-enlisting in the military. Unfortunately, it’s January 2014 and he is definitely not back in the military, but we’ve managed.

Long story short, things are looking up for training now and 2014 might finally be OUR YEAR!

In the meantime, I’m appreciating all the little things he does for us as I take care of earning the dough while he takes care of making sure I eat (haha). I’ve always appreciated his efforts…but more so now since I feel we’re so close to the wait being up.

Soon I’ll pack his lunches and hear him come in the door after a long day of work cheering, “honey, I’m home!” While I can’t wait for these moments, in the meantime I’ll just work on soaking up the time we have right now.

Running with the dogs is an everyday thing for him. He takes such great care of Kate & Trudy!

He’s got a LOT of patience. These dogs are ready to pounce for his leftovers!

He brings me coffee every single morning.

Life

In my nearly 29 years on this earth, I think I’ve always been a go-go-go girl. Always looking for the next thing to fill my time. Next way to earn an extra buck doing something creative with my mind.

Now? All I want to do is rest. I’ve been pretty successful in a lot of what I’ve tried in the past, but now’s time to relax. Maybe take a nap on Sunday afternoons. Nix the word “busy” from my vocabulary. Focus on what’s most important. Do a little crafting for myself. My sister says I’m entering a new Saturn cycle. Not sure what that means, but maybe I’ll find the time to research it now!

In order to reach some of these desires, I’ve had to give up some things that were previously very important to me. It doesn’t mean they won’t come back to life in the future, it just means I can’t focus on it now.

On that note, I’ve started looking for a few little things that cover life in general, and I’m loving having my eyes open more to everyday beauty! Even though I’m in the middle of a Project 365, it’s hard sometimes to witness everyday beauty. Time to be more intentional!

productivity for working moms

welcome!

I'm Jessica!

I used to glorify "busy." If I wasn't busy, I wasn't doing enough. But when I became a mama, my entire outlook shifted.

The only way out involved a complete overhaul of my time, money & communication systems.

Today, I'm doing LESS and achieving more.

It's a productivity dream!

I'm still learning (and always will be!), but my purpose here is to help YOU achieve this level of space in your life too.
