30 Before 30 // an update

Today is March 31, 2014 and I’m 29 years old! With just a single year left to complete my 30 Before 30 goals, I figured it would be best to reflect on my current progress today.

2014 03 31 30 Before 30

 1. Read the current books in A Song of Ice & Fire Series | Game of Thrones | A Clash of Kings | A Storm of Swords | A Feast for Crows | A Dance with Dragons

I’m done with Game of Thrones and have 11 chapters left before finishing A Clash of Kings. I’m going MUCH slower than planned on this goal, so if I want to step it up I need to finish each of the next 3 books in 4 months or less. Let’s do this!

2. Finish digital album of road trip to Montana from Thanksgiving 2011

Not done yet. I’ll include this as part of a future month’s Directive!

3. Move to a new City

In my last 30 Before 30 update, we had plans to move this spring out to D.C. That plan fell through (for good reasons) and we’re expecting to move this fall, still giving us plenty of time to move before I turn 30! We’re very, very excited…and we have only a slight idea where we’ll end up, but really no idea until it’s finalized.

4. Adopt Trudy

Obviously this one is done! Check out a recent video of the little one and her big sissy.

5. Lose 10+ pounds and keep it off

Ugh, so hard! I went down about 4 pounds a couple months ago then back up. I’m within walking distance of our gym thru May and I’ve started recording calories again. I’m trying to lose 10 pounds over 10-14 weeks, so I’m giving myself until mid/end of June.

6. Open an Etsy shop

Hooray! I opened my Etsy shop at the end of November last year and have 132 sales already! That’s pretty awesome considering I don’t have too many planner and home management products in the shop yet. I do have an awesome Blog Planner though! So many amazing things are on the horizon for mid-2014 and 2015! I’m so excited to have my own shop and place to share my creations.

7. Take inventory of all material items we own and purge/sell/donate anything we don’t need

We’ve completed about 50% of this goal. We’ve gone through everything in our bedroom, bathroom, all media (as of this past weekend), and much of my craft stuff. Right now we’re working on the purge aspect and packing items into sturdy bins. Once the purging is complete, I’ll actually record it all in an inventory format. As far as selling items, we have a garage sale scheduled for May 16! Anything left over will get added to an Instagram “shop my stuff” account sometime in late May or June. Stay tuned!

8. Create/sew an elaborate Daenerys costume for Halloween

I’ll get started on this soon. Maybe when Season 4 premieres in a week and I finish A Clash of Kings, I’ll be motivated to get started! I only have one Halloween left before my 30th birthday now…

9. Finish at least one knitting project

I started another cross-stitch sampler (Once Upon a Time) for 2014 so I’m a little pre-occupied. I found my knitting pattern guide in our book boxes this past weekend so I’ll dig that out for an easy project sometime this summer for a rainy day.

10. Compile an image portfolio containing 50 images shot only on my Canon 1V film camera

Dangit – only 4 rolls taken so far — in a whole year! I’m not as committed a film photographer as I once thought. Frankly though, I haven’t taken many pictures of any kind in the last 6 months due to winter blahs. I need to set a weekend goal to shoot a whole roll sometime soon just to get back in the swing of it. Plus, I need to scan my images!

11. Finish a cross-stitch project and get it framed.

My 2013 Woodland Sampler is completed, but not framed yet. The hard part is done!

12. Take a 10-day social media break (blog & Instagram are exceptions).

I’m strongly considering this for a 10-day window this month or in May.

13. Spend a weekend in downtown Chicago to walk around and photograph it from my memories and perspective. Then create a 100+ page coffee table book.

I think I came up with another (better) idea to memorialize my time in Chicago. I just don’t know when I’ll get a chance to visit for long enough to take this many photos! I may try this summer, but we’ll see.

14. Write nothing on my to-do list for just ONE day.

I sort of did this over Christmas break, but I’m waiting for an actual day of writing nothing on my to do list…being completely spontaneous. This day shall come!

15. Upgrade to a King Size bed upon completion of #3.

Almost there. Might be a great Christmas gift for 2014!

16. Write another online photography business workshop/e-course.

I know what I’m planning to write, but it won’t be done until closer to my 30th birthday.

17. Get a promotion at my day job.

I’m pretty sure the promotion goes into effect today, but I found out last month! I’m now a “senior project manager” and it was so worth the effort to get here. My clients are amazing and I’m excited to see where the next few years take me.

18. Give the blog a professional makeover.

This was completed in November last year and you’re all probably pretty used to it by now. The sweet dachshund illustration in my blog button and family illustration in our header were done by Michelle Baron. She’s so great!!

19. Learn yoga and start every weekday morning with at least 10 minutes.

Still need to learn yoga! I’ll try to focus on this over the summer.

20. Have a Christmas movie marathon this year with family.

We did this on Christmas Day and it was so much fun! I definitely love Christmas movies and we have a large queue of movies for next year too.

I still have 10 more goals to set and am already working on a few ideas. I’d like to keep my options open so I’ll post the goals in 6 months! Wish me luck.

Are you working on a 30 Before 30 list? I’d love to see it! Best of luck.

productivity for working moms

welcome!

I'm Jessica!

I used to glorify "busy." If I wasn't busy, I wasn't doing enough. But when I became a mama, my entire outlook shifted.

The only way out involved a complete overhaul of my time, money & communication systems.

Today, I'm doing LESS and achieving more.

It's a productivity dream!

I'm still learning (and always will be!), but my purpose here is to help YOU achieve this level of space in your life too.
