Life Lately // May 2014

Where do I begin?! The month of May has been such a whirlwind in so many ways! Unless you follow on Instagram, it’s been pretty quiet around here so I figured a good solid update is in order.

First and foremost, thank you to all the soldiers, Marines, airman, and seaman who have served our country and paid the ultimate sacrifice. Happy Memorial Day to all!

Now, back to the whirlwind of May.

> On Saturday, May 24, Nate and I celebrated our 5-year Elopiversary! Holy cow that went by fast. See this post for the story! I’m so frickin’ excited for our next 5 years I can’t even stand it!

> On the subject of our next 5 years, Nate starts his job next week!!! We’ve waited so long for this and our patience was tested time and time again. Being “in limbo” taught us so much about patience, control, and our overall compatibility and I can safely say that if we can make it through the last 2 years, we can very likely make it through anything! Our world is about to change drastically, but change is welcome with open arms from where I sit.

> Let’s talk about my day job real quick. “Day job” turned into “day and night job” for the last 3 weeks. I’ve made it a 2014 policy NOT to complain when work gets crazy and banish the world “busy” from my vocabulary as much as possible. Even with 12-15 hour days, I powered through and made it out the other side. It was a wild ride and at times, emotionally draining, but I’m really happy it happened (I might be crazy). Nobody learns anything when seas are smooth and the team we’ve built for this program is better for it. Plus, I got my fourth trip to Seattle this year out of it.

> Last weekend we held our spring garage sale with the whole neighborhood which meant tons of traffic and $213 earned! Some guy bought our box of CDs and 20 old DVDs for $35. Take it all, dude! We loved it and are already planning the fall garage sale for the rest of our “treasures” before we move in October.

> I’ve finished 5 weeks of the sugar detox and I can honestly say that sweets no longer have a hold on me. I consciously cheated to find out what would happen and I found that I wasn’t satisfied in the least bit. Also, I’ve had no morning blood sugar issues since this started. I’m excited to get back into eating some fruit now that summer is basically here. Fruit is delicious, but sweets and sugary drinks are o-u-t.

> Considering the crazy work days I’ve had lately, thank GOD I was in the middle of a digital detox month. I don’t miss the social media apps I deleted off my phone so I’ll probably leave them off for good after this month’s Directive.

> We found a bump on Trudy’s neck at the beginning of the month and the vet quoted us $750 to have it removed! We scheduled the surgery without batting an eye but within a day from her initial vet visit, the bump started going down. We ended up canceling the surgery to hold off until the first week of June after I get back from D.C. but HOORAY – the bump is already completely gone! We’ll obviously keep an eye on this one, but that was incredibly scary.

> Last but not least, I spent time with all my mamas this month! Both grandmother’s visited on Mother’s Day and my MIL was with us this past weekend at the lake. It was so great to have everyone together.

This month was nuts, but it was the perfect send-off before we actually start our lives away from what we’ve always known. We’re spending a long weekend in D.C. as our final hurrah before Nate begins his job! He’s never been there and I’m so excited to see some of my favorite landmarks and hopefully relax a little too after this crazy month.

Onward to June!!

productivity for working moms

welcome!

I'm Jessica!

I used to glorify "busy." If I wasn't busy, I wasn't doing enough. But when I became a mama, my entire outlook shifted.

The only way out involved a complete overhaul of my time, money & communication systems.

Today, I'm doing LESS and achieving more.

It's a productivity dream!

I'm still learning (and always will be!), but my purpose here is to help YOU achieve this level of space in your life too.
